Barbara McAllister, a real estate agent with Long and Foster, assumed the role of caregiver for her mother who has Alzheimer's disease. She has been a long-time supporter and volunteer for the Chapter. Mary Mell, the general manager with the assisted living and special care community of Brighton Gardens of Arlington, Marriott International, Inc., has an extensive background in health services administration. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in Health Administration from George Washington University. Jerold Mikszewski, M.D., a board-certified neurologist with the Northern Virginia Neurologic Associates in Arlington, holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from Brown University and a doctor of medicine in Neurology from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He continues to participate in and support clinical research for finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Susan K. Pollack, an attorney at law with an emphasis in elder law and estate planning, is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar Associations' Trust and Estate Sections and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She has served on the Chapter's education committee for almost two years. Thomas C. West, an insurance and financial planner for the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, specializes in long-term care planning, estate planning and investment counseling for the elderly. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia, a master's degree in Public Policy and a master's degree in Financial Planning from the University of Pittsburgh. William Stamps Howard, III, Capt., USN (Ret.) served as treasurer and a member of the board of directors for the Naval Intelligence Professionals for over six years. He has an extensive background in software and systems development, and worked with such companies as BDM International, Inc., TRW, Inc. and CSC, Inc. His mother-in-law is currently battling with the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease. Julius "Knox" Singleton holds a bachelor's degree in Physics from Berea College, a master's degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Virginia and a master's degree in Community Agency Counseling from George Mason University. He is an extremely active member of the community and recently completed his third term as president of the Lifetime Learning Institute of Northern Virginia.
