Ruth Danforth Memorial Fund (Autopsy Aid) |
|
The Ruth Danforth Memorial Fund was established in 1983 to assist families with the cost of autopsy. Autopsy is still the only way to confirm a diagnosis of Alzheimers disease. The autopsy can be performed by any knowledgeable pathologist for members who have resided within the Northern Virginia Chapter territory. Families need to make their own arrangements for autopsy and submit a copy of the bill to the association. The Alzheimers Association will reimburse the family up to $400 toward the cost of autopsy. The chapter does have information on which institutions could perform this procedure and the facilities involved in brain research. Families are encouraged to make arrangements ahead of time to avoid any added complications at the time of death. For further information or questions, please read the Chapter's two autopsy information sheets "Autopsy: Questions and Answers" and "Looking Back: Autopsy, a Personal Account" or contact Karin G. Udler or Jane Priest, LPN at (703) 359-4440.
