Surviving GraceSurviving Grace, the story of a family's challenges when the mother is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, played to enthusiastic audiences June 23 - July 15 at the Terrace Theater at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Playwright Trish Vradenburg, who has written for Designing Women, Family Ties, and Kate & Allie, drew from her own experience when creating Surviving Grace. Ms. Vradenburg lost her mother to Alzheimer's in 1991. She and her husband, George Vradenburg, Executive Vice President, AOL/Time Warner, share a commitment to Alzheimer's activisim. The Vradenburgs, along with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, makers of Aricept, hosted a reception and performance of the play on June 26, with proceeds benefitting the National Capital Area Chapter. Over 200 guests, including members of Congress, national and local media, and corporate executives, attended the benefit, which raised over $39,000 for the Chapter. On July 7, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, makers of the newest Alzheimer drug, galantamine (Reminyl), hosted a luncheon and performance of the play for caregivers, support group leaders and Helpline volunteers. Our thanks to the Vradenburgs, Pfizer and Janssen for their generosity!
