The Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area's Community Outreach Department promotes community awareness of both Alzheimer's disease and the local Chapter's programs and services. The Department also pursues opportunities to partner with other organizations, community groups, businesses and professionals, and government agencies in collaborative efforts to expand services and support throughout the Chapter's territory.
Community Outreach projects include:
- Public Relations: an ongoing program dedicated to increasing the visibility of Alzheimer's disease and its impact on the community, as well as the support available from the National Capital Area, through promotional activities, special events, local media coverage, and Chapter literature.
- Chapter Newsletter: a bi-monthly publication filled with the latest on:
- Chapter programs and services
- Chapter activities, including education opportunities for both family and professional caregivers, fundraising events
- Caregiving tips
- Community services
- Medical and research efforts
- Opportunities to support the Chapter through volunteerism or financial / in-kind contributions
- Speakers Bureau: a resource pool of family caregivers and medical, healthcare, financial, and legal professionals familiar with and experienced in speaking on Alzheimer's related issues. The Chapter provides speakers to civic and professional organizations, businesses, faith communities, and other groups interested in learning more about Alzheimer's disease and the Alzheimer's Association.
- Health Fairs: an opportunity for businesses, agencies and other events to feature information on Alzheimer's disease and the Alzheimer's Association. The Chapter provides displays, materials and volunteers upon request.
- Volunteers: a network of interested individuals and groups who provide time and expertise in all aspects of Chapter operations, including Helpline, support groups, education and awareness activities, fundraising, grassroots efforts, and administrative functions.
